are continuing to see the northern california for this hour we are continuing to see this thumb of moisture. this band of march of a disturbing for northern california. we are still warm to see these showers. this low system with a branch off here bringing plenty of rainfall to the coastline. here is what we can expect with a spotty showers and mainly dry conditions on/off. it will be steady but much lighter than what we saw today. towards the sunday, heavy rainfall, gusting wind. you will time it out on futurecast with rainfall totals coming up in just a bit. >>pam: the north bay has been the hardest hit area so far... kron 4's dan kerman has more on damage ... this round of rain left behind. >> in the mill valley on friday night public works crews were still at it cleaning up the fallen leaves on the sycamore avenue. the fear that they would gather at this catch basin and clog.. leaving up water with no where to go. earlier request of the fallen leaves but fallen trees. the earlier that day, these huge trees split this limbs and half. but it was quite a surprise. before this the suv own

northern california weather. the man and woman left citrus heights near sacramento on thursday. headed to their home in gardener hill, nevada and they have not been seen since. frer-year-old rod and his girlfriend paula lane were visiting family and friends in northern california before driving home to nevada in the storm. rescue teams and volunteers joining family members searching mountain highway in the snow for signs of the couple or even the car. >> everyone out there trying to $15 my dad and paula. it has been awesome seeing even come together. and i really appreciate it. >>reporter: rescue crew volunteer will continue to search for the couple tomorrow off road and on foot. >>> san francisco man has been charged with kidnapping and raping an autistic is 16-year-old girl. 36-year-old gary steve atkinson was arraigned today. heard the formal charges against hip. he's accused of abduct ago girl who wandered away from a youth center on november 27. she was found by a muni driver and helped police find atkinson. he's expected in court tomorrow. >> in the east bay people living

near you. >>> northern california, oregon, and washington state are getting just pummeled with rain, and it's the fourth storm in a row since last wednesday which means there's been no time to recover each time these places get hit, and flooding damage, well, just look at your screen, it's an absolute mess. we have crews covering every angle of this storm. dan simon is in lafayette, california, which is in the northeast part of oakland. there's a massive sinkhole there. chad myers is in the cnn weather center watching these storms as they develop. dan, let me start with you. what's the story on the sinkhole? >> reporter: well, as you said, ashleigh, it is a real mess out here. let me show you what's going on. you can see crews here removing some of the debris. this is a massive sinkhole. this is 80 feet long, 15 feet deep, 40 feet wide. let me explain how this happened. there's a creek that runs beneath the concrete, and it got clogged up and it just washed away all the dirt, and with that the road. you got the whole street closed. it's going to be closed for several months. what cr

for the afternoon northern california to it will continue to press south with moisture associated. but it will move quicker. not such extravagant rainfall totals. we will see how much rainfall totals we can expect coming up in just a bit. >> three east bay firefighters seriously hurt... following a string of accidents on a rain- soaked highway. kron4's justine waldman has more on their recovery.. and the dramatic video from the crash. a wealthy silicon valley couple -- the victims of a deadly home invasion. >> the amount of excruciating pain is evident on this firefighters face. three firefighters were seriously hurt after a chain reaction accident on highway 24. they were soaked and the suffering as they were trying to save someone else. >> they are in good spirits. >> the fire chief is close to their bed and walnut creek hospital. the firefighter/paramedic and were all on the shoulder of the highway. at the exit dealing with a traffic accident when another car going fast lost control. they hit their fire truck and it rolled over. in this a dangerous situation they were doing everything right. >>

. >>> the surf along the northern california coast is approaching all-time highs this week. cbs 5 reporter anne makovec is along the embarcadero in san francisco watching for today's king tides. >> reporter: the king tides the highest seasonal tides. right now the water is not that high. but we're waiting for it to come up. the highest it will be this morning is going to be just before 10 a.m. with a 7-foot tied. we are going to see these high tides today and for the next couple of days. now, check out this video from the connector ramp from 101 to highway 1 in marin. yesterday that was flooded. and that normally only happens when there's a storm but this was caused simply by the king tides. the very high tides could be getting higher as the ocean fills up with water for a variety of reasons, 8" in the past century. and you can see the proof in san francisco sewers. >> when i came near 1990, there was never a time where the tide was higher than our sewer. last year we had seven events. that saltwater now is coming into our system. >> reporter: that is break the pipes down. saltwater not very go

and radar showing through our northern california. take a look further towards washington you can see the blue indicating snowfall. cold air from canada of with this system. as we take a look at the rainfall for tonight. we will start at 8:00 p.m. and continue it is not that organized. heavier through petaluma, and the san mateo coast. by 5:00 p.m., still some showers but not that wide spread. it will continue for the afternoon. some spotty showers here, there in the 4:00 p.m. hour and into the 8:00 p.m. hour as for temperatures they're going to stay on the cool side. 50s through san francisco, 52 in san rafeal. 50s in san jose. the storm is a cold one we're going to look at the midnight hour. in full swing over the sierras it will continue for tomorrow. even for tomorrow we will see some inches of snowfall when everything is said and done at the higher elevations. 1 ft. at 7,000 ft.. high chance of lingering showers with the temperatures in the 30's. for the next several days. as we take a look at a local temperatures that rain will push through. thursday, friday, the temperatures in

. satellite radar shows the will of the wet weather still impacting northern california. here in the bay area we are seeing the clouds associated with that system but this is relatively weak in nature. high pressure is changing the track and it is actually staying north. this is a slow mover we will see some showers around santa rosa this afternoon. most of the activity sticks and north of the golden gate bridge today. you can see 3:00 p.m. light rain for napa, fairfield and san raphael. and 10:00 p.m. tonight that some light ride again for santa rosa. it will not build up in intensity. the bulk of the moisture will arrive in the overnight hours. as we pushed the clock and to 8:00 a.m. the peak of your morning commute tomorrow it looks like some light rain around bay area. showers will taper off as we head into tomorrow afternoon. here's a look at your temperatures. warmer compared to yesterday's. 10 degrees warmer compared to 24 hours ago. 51 for snapple. 52 in oakland. half moon bay at 54 degrees 514 napa. upper 50s and the north bay. a lot of cloud cover. 63 for oakland. 634 fremont and re

hit washington, oregon, and northern california today and more heavy rain is expected to pound the region through tomorrow. flooding is causing problems like sinkholes. cnn's dan simon is standing in front of a huge one in lafayette, california. dan, another round of storms is coming, as wolf said. can that rain-soaked area handle anymore rain? >> reporter: well, it's just a mess, kate, and the forecast is bad news for these rain-soaked communities. let me explain where i am. i'm in lafayette, california, standing inside a sinkhole. this is pretty dramatic. it's 80 feet long, 40 feet wide, 15 deep. let me explain how this happened. the water was gushing beneath the road here. there's a creek. and basically, the soil just ripped away and it caused the street to cave in. crews have been working all day, trying to clear out these large chunks of concrete. they also had to create these alternative lines, these temporary lines for water and sewage to service this neighborhood, so they didn't, you know, go without basic services. the weather has been terrible here in the bay area for
